Suspect arrested in HOA president?s beating
A man accused of attacking and robbing the homeowners’ association president at a Fort Lauderdale condo community has been arrested.
Jamal Patrick Pinkney, 27, had his first court appearance Tuesday morning before Judge John Hurley on charges of robbery and battery.
Pinkney is accused of beating 61-year-old Arthur Burns, the HOA president at the Villas of Lakeview, who was trying to quiet a group of noisy people at the time. Surveillance video shows Burns was sucker-punched, knocked to the ground, beaten and kicked repeatedly until he was unconscious while someone rummaged through his pockets, stealing an iPhone. Detectives said that person was Pinkney.
Pinkney was arrested overnight Monday by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force after a series of tips.
Pinkney has had previous run-ins with the law, including charges of drug possession and resisting arrest. The judge levied a bond of about $26,500 for both the charges, but then he realized that Pinkney had cases pending on unrelated charges and decided to hold him without bond until those cases are finished up.
